No matter what stage of life a woman is in, health and fitness should always be a priority. However, many times it falls on the back burner due to limited time and finances. If this describes you, follow these four tips from The MMA Historian to maintain a strong health and fitness routine without breaking the bank or spending hours every day at the gym.
Here are 4 Ways for Women To Prioritize Health and Fitness:
- Utilize Home Workouts
Whether you have kids, a crazy work schedule, live far away from a gym or all the above, home workouts are a fantastic way to exercise when you have limited time and resources. Instead of spending time driving or trying to find a sitter for the kids, you can exercise in the comfort of your home.
Plus, you do not have to worry about the gym hours. Are you an early bird? Work out first thing in the morning. Are you a stay-at-home mom? Get a workout during nap time. Exercise during the time that works best for you since you are not limited by a center’s hours.
If you are on a tight budget, there are numerous free exercise videos online. If you want to invest in a specific program, numerous instructors offer workouts for purchase via streaming.
If you have a day where you are stretched for time, sneak exercises into your daily routines. Instead of sitting while folding laundry, do squats and lunges while watching a favorite show. Use home items to get in physical activity, such as a kitchen counter, wall, or chair for tricep dips. If you work at an office, walk during your lunch break, or take the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Invest in Exercise Gear
Just as wearing an attractive outfit makes you feel confident or having proper equipment helps you do your job better, investing in the appropriate tools and clothing helps you make the most of your health journey.
If your sports bras are stretched out or shorts are uncomfortable, invest in new clothing. If you are still in maternity clothing, this may help. You don’t have to go all out on your exercise clothing. Instead, choose comfortable leggings with a supportive nursing bra for your daily walks and yoga routines. When you’re ready for more intense exercise, then you can switch to higher endurance clothing.
While you do not need all the equipment in a gym for a good workout, investing in a few tools, such as a yoga mat, dumbbells, or resistance bands, can take your exercises to the next level.
- Change Your Home Environment
A messy or uncomfortable house can leave you feeling anxious. A few simple changes to your home environment can promote healthy living. Reduce stress and fatigue by decluttering and cleaning, opening windows, updating the lighting, adding plants, or adjusting the temperature.
Once your home is spick and span, create a place just for you to relax in solitude or meditate, such as an extra bedroom or large closet. Having a special place at home to be alone helps you recharge, reflect, and grow in self-awareness.
- Cook at Home
Science Daily reports that people who cook at home have a diet that fulfilled more of the federal guidelines than those who did not. While fast food and restaurants are convenient, it is often more difficult to eat healthily at these places.
Avoid temptation by stocking your fridge with healthy food and filtered water. Snacks like yogurt, protein bars, and fruit make healthy snacks when you need something on the go.
If you’re a coffee drinker, do the same sort of research on caffeine as you would about the nutritious food you eat. Learn more about which roasts have the most caffeine and whether a French Press is really worth the extra effort. Because when you’re balancing life, family, fitness, and work, you’re going to need a strong cup of coffee in the morning.
Make Your Wellbeing Your Priority
While it can be difficult at times, prioritizing your mental and physical well-being improves your confidence, health, and strength. Remember, you don’t have to go hardcore from the beginning. Start with smaller steps and become consistent with those before adding new ones. Over time, you can turn these four tips into habits to make the most of your health and fitness, no matter your schedule or budget.
